EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We live in a world where the big questions about how the world accesses the energy services it requires are left unanswered.

The greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel dependence of the North is arguably the most “non-sustainable” activity currently taking place by humanity as it continues to change the ratios of gas in the planet’s atmosphere. At the same time, there is increased recognition of improved energy services in the context of development.

The major argument is that basic energy services should attract the focus of the world’s decision makers.

Rapid urbanization, poor infrastructure, climate and the big squeeze on water resources have created a global problem of adequate sanitation that is focused in the big cities in the developing countries. SKY LINK INNOVATORS (SLI) is introducing an approach in the country as a technological solution that would both increase hygiene and recover the finite resource of water and nutrients. Our approach is a biological treatment process where wastewater is treated by a combination of treatment modules according to the wastewater and site specific requirements.

SLI approach minimizes external inputs and maintenance requirements. Under the aegis of community based sanitation projects and also for private organizations or individual owners. SLI offers a technical intervention adding to community sanitation aspect of the environmental sanitation. Collection and use of BIOGAS from these units have been added as a means of converting the gas waste stream to a resource for communities or institutions.

WHO WE ARE

SLI is a company consisting of professional team that is environmentally conscious. Its speciality is to enhance sustainable development through promotion of environmentally friendly technologies in waste and wastewater management. Proper processing and disposal of waste and waste water from various establishments is an issue that has come out quite clearly recently.

SLI is offering a service that aims at assisting investors to treat and dispose their waste and waste water properly in ways that the investor can also benefit from the waste.

Benefits that can be accrued from such investment will include gas for cooking, proper solid waste disposal in which valuable fertilizer can be made, possibility to treat the entire wastewater generated in your establishment in a bio-digester with possibility to generate your own electricity.

THE ORGANISATION’S GOALS

Addressing basic energy needs for cooking, lighting and heating is a key element in reducing “extreme poverty and hunger” in developing countries. Energy that enables productive end uses can be the means by which fewer people living under the CRUDE dividing line of one dollar per day, can be helped to improve their lives

At least half if not more of gross energy consumption in most developing countries occurs in rural areas. The bulk of this energy is derived from locally traditional energy resources. Modern commercial energy sources such as electricity and petroleum-based fuels, generally provide a small part of the energy consumed by rural people, mainly because supply and affordability constraints.

The rural population in the developing countries faces hardships in their lives due to poverty, unemployment and lack of economic support to lead better lives.

A lot of organic waste from both animals and human beings go unutilized yet our environment and forests are destructed daily to provide uneconomic energy for institutional and domestic use.

Our soul mission is to develop sustainable energy production systems by exploiting the tremendous potential of biogas and electricity extraction from undesirable organic wastes that are readily available and affordable in the rural areas of our country Kenya, and generation of electricity using biogas and wind

Domestic animal waste from cows, pigs and chicken and also human waste can be used to produce biogas. It has the advantage of producing clean cooking fuel (methane) reducing the impact of organic wastes on the environment and enhancing the value of final residues. Nowadays hundreds of projects around the world from small dairy farm to large institutions are demonstrating that biogas production systems are environmentally and economically sound.

With rising commercial energy costs and growing climate changes concerns, bio-methane is rapidly reclaiming it’s rightful place, as an appropriate source of renewable energy in our energy portfolio.

We therefore have dedicated ourselves to disseminate biogas production plants in our rural areas and institutions by integrating the technical skills we already have on how to put up such plants, and other required resources in order to play the role of enabling the rural households reap the multi- benefits that come along with the use of biogas as a clean source of cooking fuel.

Education about the Natural Environment
Environmental education is being recognized as increasingly important in creating sustainable development. More of us need to know that electricity can be generated from natural energy such as wind and sunlight, and more of us should be aware that effective use of natural energy is essential for our future. This will be a huge first step towards sustainable development.

It is also important for us to know that environmental destruction has started to cause climate changes, affecting our health and changing the ways in which we lead our everyday life. For example, strong winds not only lower our body temperature, but also have a close relationship with allergies caused by pollen and other irritants. Lower humidity may cause itching or rough, dry skin. Climate and weather are important elements that determine the condition of our environment.
